Project
This pilot project aims to explore the feasibility of establishing an impact fund dedicated to cinema in Belgium. With traditional public funding for this sector declining, private impact investment could provide an alternative. However, the experience in both an impact fund and the cinema sector reveals a significant disconnect between them. Impact funds often overlook the financial and social relevance of films, while cinema professionals hesitate to compromise their art’s integrity with private investments. In today’s environment of democratic threats, misinformation, and social media manipulation, supporting storytelling is vital. Cinema amplifies diverse voices and fosters critical thinking and democratic engagement. Flores objective is to convene stakeholders from both sectors, fostering dialogue to bridge these gaps and discuss the role of cinema in driving social change. Ultimately, she aims to establish the groundwork for a cinema impact fund in the specific Belgian context.
